Trip Into The Past

The following pictures are from Old Town Naha some of the areas where people still live and tourist still wander the narrow streets. This was the area where my wife grew up after WW II, much of this area was destroyed by fire after the Americans bombed Naha in their conquest of Okinawa.

An old style Okinawan Soba Restaurant. My wife checking the one-coin menus; one coin means 500 yen.

The picture below shows an old, very old movie advertisement featuring all Japanese stares; one looks like a Japanese Clint Eastwood. LoL!

Walking past an old abandoned Okinawan house heading down memory lane.

Got Some More Okinawa Pictures 4U

All of the below pictures were taken on Okinawa, not trying to do a series but just a variety of different things I’ve seen and observed recently from flowers to sunsets and more.

A heron (I believe) landing in the river looking for a meal.

This was taken a little farther downstream from where I shot the bird landing but it’s the same river on it’s way to the ocean.

This is Higa water falls up in the more northern part of Okinawa, about an  hour or so hike from the parking area. Quite a scenic tour across creeks and steams and alongside a small mountain.

A Little Fish Eye and More

Me through the eyes of a fish eye or perhaps eyes?

A little puppy at a local pet store

who just wants someone to love him enough to take him home.

Christmas illumination in front of Main Place in Shintoshin.

Life On the Urasoe River

An egret on a fishing trip in the river near our home.

The same egret from the 1st picture flying away when my noise startled him; I used a little fish eye effect on this one. I can edited using fish eye in my D90 Nikon.

Looking down the river toward the west at what appears to be some sort of castle; but in reality is just the design of an apartment complex or a business down the river from where I was standing.

Someone told me this is a heron of some type I don’t know; but here he is looking for a little breakfast. I used a fairly slow shutter speed to get a little smoother water flow.

More Okinawa Photos

Computer problems so I haven’t posted in a while!:(

Taken with very slow exposure at about 5:30 AM at Okuma Beach in Okinawa.

A beautiful Okinawa Beach a few miles North of Nago on Hwy. 58.

A short bridge over the river that divides Urasoe from Shintoshin; note under the bridge you can see where some homeless people are living.

Small Hotel by the Sea

Driving north on Hwy. 58 along the coast you’ll find this small room and board type hotel, where lots of tourist, divers, bikers, and others out to explore the beauty of Okinawa like to stop and spend the night. Beautiful view from the small balcony on each room.

Waiting For A Tsunami That Didn’t Show

I was standing on a beach at Okuma Resort where we were expecting a Tsunami at 5:40 PM. Thank God it didn’t come to our Island, but the mainland of Japan took a terrible hit PLEASE pray for Japan! Thousands of people are still missing the death toll is beyond my imagination and it keeps growing so how you pray; please pray.

Lighthouse at Cape Zampa

A beautiful view of the lighthouse at Cape Zampa not far from the U.S. Army Base at Yomitan. Many tourist come here daily. It is reported that during a super typhoon the waves sometimes reach near the top of the tower. I don’t want to be there to find out!

Low Tide at Zampa Beach

Zampa is a popular beach area for this part of Okinawan with lots of the American Military families, the locals, as well as many tourist who come from mainland Japan and other nations as well. Here you can see the effect of the constant assault of the ocean against the land in the various rock formations and erosion.

Beautiful Okinawan Beach and Ocean

This was taken just off Hwy. 58 headed North toward the Okuma Resort area. Not a beach that is often used for swimming but one that is very beautiful.

Jam Session at Grace Uruma city in Okinawa

God bless the young an on fire for Jesus crowd, some of us old foogies could /should learn from them. We’ve many time lost what it means to be excited for Jesus and the things of God.

Isolated Okinawan Beach

This is an isolated beach scene taken along Hwy. 58 traveling north up toward Okuma Resort area. This was taken during the winter season and it may have a little more activity during the summer months.

Awesome Sunset

I caught this picture just as the clouds were preparing to swallow the setting sun.

Okinawan House with Cherry Blossoms

Past by this house with the sakura in the front yard and couldn’t resist the shot.

With the blue skies and clouds it’s a nice shot.

A Beautiful View of an Okinawa Beach

Just one of our many beautiful Okinawan beaches. this one is easy to reach just off Hwy. 58 north of Nago. Sorry when they crunched the picture they cut out much of the sandy beach area.

This beautiful bird seems to be dancing on the river but really is landing in search of a meal:)

One of the holes on a golf course overlooking the ocean here on Okinawa.
